Built in 438 BC, this marvelous temple is the most famous symbol of Greece’s Golden Age. Parthenon features marvelous metopes, friezes, statues, and sculptures, all considered to be amongst the highest points of classical Greek art. Originally built to house the statue of Athena, Parthenon has changed many roles throughout the centuries, serving as a temple, later as a church, a mosque, and even as a storage facility during the Ottoman empire. What is certain is that it has a lot of stories to share with you.
An emblematic architectural monument of outstanding universal value, it is a World Heritage UNESCO site and it’s probably the first place you’ll visit after landing in Athens. And rightfully so.
